1919-1927
REGNER
begins to demonstrate a rigor at this point in his career from which he
will never depart. Witness here, this beautiful self portrait of 1922
which is drawn with authority. The acuteness of the line blends itself
with the expression of the materials. The smooth and transparent skin
of the face contrasts with the textual quality of the back of an
armchair. REGNER also paints still lives
and landscapes whose structure is very authoritative, but at the same
time, the play of the paintbrush makes the surface vibrate. Looking at
the self portrait, we find two fixed points, rigorousness and
sensuality, visible on his face, the arch of his eyebrows and the
bridge of his sharp nose and then, a sensuous mouth..
