Alfred-Georges REGNER's lifelong friend, Henry LHOTELLIER. This text
appeared in the magazine, Bononia, no. 18 of the first semester of
1991. This review is published by the Association des amis du
musée de Boulogne-sur-Mer. (Translated and edited into English
by Dan Harder, Christine Lemor-Drake and Catherine Theilen Burke). We
have taken the pains to preserve the author's style of writing..
The friendship between REGNER and LHOTELLIER was one of great mutual
respect from the start of the St. Luc Studio to REGNER's death in 1987.
They always remained close. Henry married a childhood friend of Jeanne
Regner and became the godfather of one of her daughters. When REGNER
left the North of France for Fontainebleau, they continued a lifelong correspondence.
Henry LHOTELLIER (Amiens 1908-Lille 1993) had a career as painter,
engraver and stained glass master artist. He knew Regner best both as
painter and man. He exhibited his work regularly at the "Salon des
réalités nouvelles", and was a close friend of Herbin. In
1992-1993, a retrospective of his engravings was presented by the
"Musée des Beaux-Arts et de la Dentelle de Calais", and at the
"Musée de Gravelines." A catalogue raisonné of his
engraving was published for the exhibition.
