REGNER's
parents, traumatized by the death of their oldest son, make him doubt
his intellectual abilities and steer him towards painting. They enroll
him in "L'Ecole régionale des Beaux-Arts d'Amiens" (the Regional
Fine Arts School of Amiens) where he studies for three years. In 1918,
his father dies of the Spanish Flu and his mother returns to Calais,
his native city, where he enrolls in "L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts". He also
becomes a technical lace designer which fixed in his memory strong
images of skein, threads and weaving and their resultant interlacings,
garlands, leaves and flowers.
